The Treatment

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a professional skin resurfacing treatment that uses a medical-grade surgical scalpel held at a precise 45-degree angle to gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells (the stratum corneum) along with fine vellus hair — commonly known as "peach fuzz".

The result is an immediate improvement in skin texture, tone and radiance. Skin feels noticeably softer and looks visibly more even after a single session. Skincare products also absorb more effectively on freshly dermaplaned skin, making it an excellent complement to your existing routine.

Dermaplaning is a popular pre-event treatment and can be combined with our Hydrofacial for an enhanced, deeply nourishing result at £80.

The Process

How Dermaplaning Works

The entire treatment takes just 20 minutes and involves no chemicals, needles or heat — making it one of the most accessible professional skin treatments available.

1

Skin Assessment & Cleanse

The skin is assessed, thoroughly cleansed and prepped to ensure it is free of oils and makeup before treatment begins.

2

Dermaplaning

A sterile surgical scalpel is held at 45 degrees and used in short, feathering strokes across the skin — removing dead cells and vellus hair in one pass. The sensation is a gentle scraping feeling with no pain.

3

Soothing & Hydration

A calming serum and moisturiser are applied to the freshly exfoliated skin, which now absorbs active ingredients more effectively.

4

SPF Application

A broad-spectrum SPF is applied before you leave to protect the newly revealed skin from UV exposure.

Combine & Save: Add a Hydrofacial to your dermaplaning for an enhanced, deeply hydrating result. Dermaplaning & Hydrofacial combined: £80

Common Myth

Does dermaplaning make hair grow back thicker?

No — this is one of the most persistent myths in skincare, and it has no basis in biology. Dermaplaning removes vellus hair — the fine, soft, barely visible hair that covers the face. Cutting vellus hair does not change the structure of the hair follicle, so it grows back exactly as it was: fine, soft and the same colour. Only the follicle type (vellus vs terminal) determines hair thickness, and that cannot be altered by cutting at the surface. You will never grow back coarser or darker hair from dermaplaning.

FAQs

Dermaplaning Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your dermaplaning appointment.

Does dermaplaning make hair grow back thicker? +
No — this is a persistent myth with no biological basis. Dermaplaning removes vellus hair (fine peach fuzz), not terminal hair. Cutting vellus hair at the surface cannot alter the structure of the hair follicle, so it grows back exactly as before: fine, soft and the same colour. Only the follicle type determines hair texture, and that is not changed by cutting.
Is dermaplaning suitable for all skin types? +
Dermaplaning is suitable for most skin types including dry, dull, rough, combination and sensitive skin, and works safely on all skin tones. It is not recommended for those with active acne, inflamed or reactive skin, rosacea flare-ups, eczema, psoriasis or raised skin conditions such as moles within the treatment area.
How often should I have dermaplaning? +
Dermaplaning is typically recommended every 3–4 weeks, which aligns with the skin's natural cell turnover cycle (approximately 28 days). This interval allows the skin to complete its renewal process before the next session, maintaining a consistently smooth and radiant complexion without over-exfoliating.
Can I wear makeup after dermaplaning? +
We advise avoiding heavy makeup for at least 24 hours after dermaplaning to allow the freshly exfoliated skin to settle. After 24 hours, you can apply makeup as normal — and many clients notice it sits noticeably more smoothly on freshly dermaplaned skin, making it a popular pre-event treatment.
Does dermaplaning hurt? +
Dermaplaning is entirely painless. The sensation is often described as a gentle scraping or stroking feeling across the skin — similar to shaving but lighter. There are no chemicals, heat or needles involved. Most clients find it relaxing.
